Blogger Discussion - Negative Comments
We have all probably seen the tireless debates on negative reviews and whether they are a DO or a DON'T. Personally, I am pro negative review as long as the reviewer can verbalize the issues they had with the book in a non-slandering way and I am still able to decide for myself if, based on my preferences, I would still enjoy the book.
But what about negative comments?
Now let me paint the scene for you so you can understand what I mean by this...
Let's take last week's example - A blogger posts a Cover Reveal image with the obligatory promotional links and synopsis blurb and asks if we are all excited for the book... or something along those lines as cover reveals tend to go... I see it and think the couple on the cover that is supposed to look like they are hot for each other actually looks like one of them has to poop.
...or maybe instead I think the cover is poorly put together and looks like a photoshop chop shop or it is boring and redundant - take your pick.
I want to say this even though it feels wrong to say something mean about a new release that we are all supposed to be excited for. In fact, I have typed out comments like this MANY times (more times than I should admit), but I ALWAYS delete them before posting because I don't want to be mean - especially on someone else's blog. I would happily write something along these lines on my blog because, well, it's my blog and the buck stops with me. But on someone else's blog I am always hesitant to leave any sort of negative mark because I would never want my comments to in some way reflect poorly on another blogger.
What do you guys think? Do you hesitate to leave negative comments or do you let it all hang out? What do you consider a negative comment? Would you feel comfortable saying you don't love a cover? Or think a plot sounds too cliched and unoriginal?
